8:15 am |
Arrived in Labour and Delivery Room (LDR) 4. This is the same room that was used when Andrew was born. The nurse is Terry and the Doctor on call who will be delivering the baby is Dr. Viljoen. Dr. Pallie (our GP) doesn't have hospital privileges at St. Catharines General Hospital, so the Pediatrician on call, Dr. Dorah, will be responsible for checking the baby out. |
8:20 am |
Dr. Viljoen had to take his son to a sports camp day at Brock University, so he wanted to get things going. He broke the water and examined Lisa and said she was at 2 cm. |
Spent quite a while filling out paper work
9:00 am | The oxytocin IV was started at 4 ml per hour. They tried to get the IV
in Lisa's left hand, but it wouldn't "thread" so they put it in her wrist. The baby's heart beat averaged 135 and during a contraction would go up to about 150 |
9:50 am | Minor contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart. The oxytocin was increased to 12 ml per hour |
10:00 - 11:00 am | Watched Ellen |
10:35 am | Contractions are about 2-3 minutes apart, but still not that painful. |
10:40 am | Oxytocin increased to 16 ml per hour |
10:55 am | Oxytocin increased to 20 ml per hour |
11:10 am | Oxytocin increased to 24 ml per hour. Contractions are starting to hurt more. |
11:25 am | Oxytocin increased to 28 ml per hour |
11:40 am | Oxytocin left at 28 ml per hour |
Terry had to go assist with a cessarian section, so nurse Jane came in to cover
12:30 pm | Dr. Viljoen came in to check. She is at 5 cm. Lisa is feeling a lot of pain and asked for a shot of Nubain |
12:35 pm | Jane gave Lisa a shot of Nubain |
12:50 pm | Lisa is feeling better. She definitely thinks the Nubain has kicked in |
1:09 pm | Lisa thinks she could fall asleep between contractions |
1:30 pm | Called nurse because Lisa is feeling a lot of pressure. The contractions seem much stronger and closer together |
2:10 pm | Dr. Viljoen came in to check. She is at 8 cm. Jane got Lisa to roll onto her side to help speed things up. |
2:25 pm | The pain was too much to handle on her side, so Lisa rolled back onto her back |
2:30 pm | Jane examined Lisa and she was at 9.5 cm. They called Dr. Viljoen to come in. |
2:38 pm | Dr. Viljoen arrived |
2:42 pm | A small episiotomy was done. |
2:45 pm | MATTHEW JOSEPH JAMES WING was born! |
